Ajeet Singh, Abhishek Mishra, Abdur Rab, Sanjay Dhaker* and Dr. Jagdish Rathi

ABSTRACT

Phoenix sylvestris is commonly known as Indian date and is native to India and southern portions of Pakistan. It is traditionally important and known for its nutritional values throughout the world. Fruits are the rich source of carbohydrate, phenols, amino acids, flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, terpenoids, dietary fibers, essential vitamins and minerals. The effect of Phoenix sylvestris extract was studied on paracetamol induced hepatic damage in mice. The mice was treated with extract of phoenix sylvestris (100 mg/kg body weight) was found to protect the the mice from hepato-toxic action of paracetamol as result shows that significant reduction in the elevated serum transaminase levels. Histopathology of liver studies showed marked reduction in fatty degeneration and centrizonal necrosis in animals receiving the doses of Phoenix sylvestris extract with paracetamol as compared to the normal group. In the evaluation, mice administered extract, showed a significant reduction in serum enzyme activity and normal livers. It is observed that the Phoenix sylvestris extract treated groups were found to protect from hepatocellular damage caused by paracetamol.
