Emulgel plays a key role in chronic skin infections like fungal infections, acne, poison and inflammatory conditions. The combination of a emulsion and gel combined results into formation osf emulgel resulting in increase in the solubility of a poorly soluble drug. The presence of a gelling agent in the water phase converts a classical emulsion into an emulgel. A unique aspect of dermatological pharmacology is the direct accessibility of the skin as a target organ for diaognosis and treatment. Emulgels have several favorable properties of dermatological use such as thixotropic, greaseless, easily spreadable, easily removable, emollient, non-staining, long shelf life, bio-friendly, transparent and pleasing appearance. Within the major group of semisolid preparations, the use of transparent gels has expanded both in cosmetics and in pharmaceutical preparations. This review gives basic knowledge of skin & about various affecting factors, formulation, preparation, evaluation and emulgels.
