Vrana which smells badly, has abnormal color with profuse discharge, intense pain and takes long period to heal is said to be Dushta. Acharya Sushruta has explained sixty different upakramas for the management of various types of wounds. He has described specific types of wounds which by any external or internal factors have reduced to a condition where healing is delayed or absent under Dustavrana. Various factors such as contamination of wound, vascular insufficiency, foreign bodies, infection, malnutrition, Immune deficiency diseases like diabetes mellitus, and excessive use of steroids etc. effects wound healing. For Vrana to get healed Ropana Upakrama has to be adopted. For the Ropana to occur Shodhana of the Vrana is very much essential. Kalka is one such formulation which helps for both Shodhana as well as Ropana of the Dustavrana.
