Vatavyadhis are the diseases caused due to vitiation of vata dosha. They are of two types, viz.samanyaja and nanatmaja[1] i.e.diseases mainly due to vatadosha along with other dosha and kevala vata dosha respectively. Acharya Sushruta and others have considered avabahuka as a vatajavikara. It is the disease that affects the ansa sandhi (shoulder joint). In the pathology of this disease, vata and kapha together lead to stambha in the joint.[2] Sheeta and ruksha guna of vata together leads to sandhi stabdhata and hence patient is unable to move his shoulder joint and there are restricted, painful movements of that joint. This paper is a case study treated in the IPD of Rahuri Ayurved College and Hospital, Rahuri.
