ABSTRACT

In Ayurveda skin diseases come under Kushtha. Reference of Shwitra is found in Charak samhita, Ashtang hrudaya, Madhavnidan, Bhavprakash, Sharangdhar etc. The Shwitra term is combination of Shweta and Rak. Shweta means whiteness and Rak is suffix of„ Shweta’ Dhatu. The Nirukti of the term reveals white colour or changes toward white colour. Shwitra has been mentioned along with Kushtha but not included in the types of Kushtha. In Sushrut samhita called Kilas instead of Shwitra and mostly it use as synonyms. Ayurvedic classical text claimed that the Krimi (Raktaja Krimi) are one of the internal etiological factor for Twachavikar (Kushtha), it may infer that Krimi (Raktaja Krimi) is the midway pathological event in course of intake of Nidana and formation of Twachavikara (Kushtha). in the modern dermatology, Shwitra can be correlated with Vitiligo. Vitiligo is hypopigmentation and depigmentary disorder with a worldwide prevalence of 1%, it is characterized by destruction of melanocytes of the basal layer of epidermis and sometimes hair follicle, resulting in white patches or white hair, it is an autoimmune pathology so, treatment also remains difficult, in allopathic are only suppressive therapy not curative but in Ayurvedic treatment can manage or treat successfully in early stage, Case history Female patient, age 38yr come with complaints of white patches on knee joint and dorsum of foot region since 10yr and symptoms of Krimi due to Mithya Aahar and Vihara, so treatment had Raktaprasadak, Raktashodhak, Krimighna Basti, Tridoshhar medicines given, in this case study focus on Ayurvedic treatment in Kashtasadhya vyadhi.
