Abstract

REVIEW ON STOMATOSTATIN AND ITS ANALOGUES

*Pooja V. Katkar

ABSTRACT

Cells releases chemicals which are called as hormone. Production of somatostatin is done by paracrine cells which are found in GIT, pancreas and lungs. Some paracrine cells are located in nervous system. There are various somatostatin analogs for e.g., lanerotide, octerotide, etc. Somatostatin efficacy varies according to receptors. There are analogs which have impact in Oncology. Antitumor and antisecretory effects of somatostatin analogs in cancer are shown in many in vivo and in vitro studies. However, these activites have not always yielded into clinically relevant patient outcome benefit. Somatostatin Analogs are found effective in treating cancer. Somatostatin receptor have 5 subtype. SSTR1- This type is localised in Brain Cortex, amygdala, GIT. SSTR2- This type is localised in Brain Cortex, Pitutary adrenals. SSTR3- This type is localised in Brain, Cerebellum, Pitutary glands. SSTR4- This type is localised in Brain, Heart, Pancreatic islets. SSTR5- This type is localised in Brain, Hypothalamus, Pitutary glands.

Keywords: Somatostatin, Oncology, amygdala, Pancreatic islets.
