Abstract

CONCEPTUAL STUDY OF DISTRIBUTION OF POSHAKA DHATUS IN BODY

*Vd. Srishti Saini, Vd. Bhanwar Saini and Vd. E. E. Mojes

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Dhatus or nutrient substances are those which supports the Sharira (body), Manas (psyche or mind), and Prana (vitals or life). Dhatus comprise nutrients that are being metabolically processed and waste products that arise in the course of metabolic reactions i.e. Poshya (which is meant to be nourished), and Poshaka (which nourish). There is a pattern of distribution of nutrients to tissue elements present all over the body, of which there are well known hypothesis: Ksheera Dadhi Nyaya, Kedari Kulya Nyaya and Khale Kapota Nyaya. Aim: To study the concepts of distribution of Poshaka Dhatus in the body and the concepts of different types of Nyaya given by different Acharyas. Method: All concepts of Nyaya are read from various texts and their practical implications are studied and compared with that of pattern of distribution of nutrients to the Dhatus. Discussion and Conclusion: Rasa is a pool of nutrients, formed by the metabolism of Shadrasatmaka Ahara, which reaches Sthayi Dhatus through distinct and specific channels. The nutrients specific for the nourishment of one Dhatu may or may not nourish the other one. The nearest Srotas is bigger and its pores (srotomukha) are relatively larger, whereas those of the next dhatus are smaller and they traverse as much long distance to reach the Sthayi dhatus.

Keywords: Dhatu, Poshya, Poshaka, Nyaya, Ahara.
