Abstract

ROLE OF PALMER ANTHROPOMETRY AND ANGLE OF TRIRADIUS IN CANCER SCREENING

Somesh Mishra, *Alibha Rawat and *N. Ganesh

ABSTRACT

Dermatoglyphics is the study of the epidermal ridges and their configurations on the fingers, palms, and soles that comes under the branch of Anthropometry, which refers to the measurement of the human individual. Thus, dermatoglyphics can be called palmer anthropometry that refers to measurement of fingerprints and other epidermal patterns on the palm of an individual. Dermatoglyphics, once matured, remains unchanged the whole life of a person and are not influenced by either the environmental or age-related factors. These dermal ridges play a very crucial role in the personal identification of an individual for forensic purposes and these unique characteristics could be a diagnostic tool. Dermatoglyphics has also been accepted as a simple and less expensive means for deciding whether a patient would have a particular genetic or chromosomal disorder or not. The current review explores the predictive possibilities of dermatoglyphics as a diagnostic screening tool in search of various pre-cancers and cancers because the various studies conducted worldwide in this field so far have been convincing. This present review focuses on this aspect of dermatoglyphics. The method involves extensive electronic search on PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane data to explore relevant studies on the subject and they have been analyzed and summarized to give an insight into the role of dermatoglyphics and its role as a diagnostic marker of cancer.

Keywords: ATD angle, Cancer screening, Dermatoglyphics, Fingerprints, Palmer anthropometry.
