Abhijeet B. Kumbhar*, Dattatray Dighe and Nisha S. Gupta

ABSTRACT

In current era, people are aware of what to eat but least concern about how to eat. Due to ignorance of the people towards their healthy status, ingestion of fast food, non-observance of dietetic rules, skipping meals, late night dinners etc., they are favorable to various kinds of disorders especially anurjatajanya (allergic) disorders like allergic rhinitis, allergic asthma, allergic skin disorders, allergic GIT disorders etc. An allergy is an immunologically-mediated adverse reaction to a foreign substance, usually a protein. Allergic diseases have become a major health concern worldwide, with India being no exception. Currently, more than 25% of the total population of India is sensitized with different forms of allergens. In Ayurveda, anurjatajanya (allergic) disorders may be correlated with the concept of ama which has inevitable role in the pathogenesis of the majority of diseases. The present survey study over 1000 allergic patients was conducted to establish the relationship of ama with the anurjatajanya (allergic) diseases and to evaluate the role of viruddha ahara (incompatible diet) in the manifestation of allergies.

Keywords: anurjata, ama, allergic disorder.
