Abstract

ROLE OF TRADITIONAL METHODS MENTIONED IN AYURVEDA FOR ASTHI SANDHI CHIKITSA: A REVIEW

ABSTRACT

The most ancient and traditional practiced medical science is Ayurveda. The human body is described as a combination of Atma, Manas, Panchmahabhuta. The most important supportive framework of the body among these is Asthi (Bone tissue). Trauma management has been in practice since vedic periods as Bhagna Chikitsa. Bhagna is a fracture or dislocation of joint or bone. The Bhagna mainly divided as Sandhimukta (Dislocation) and Kandabhagna (Fracture). Sushruta has mentioned in detail about diagnosis and management for all orthopaedic injuries under the heading of Bhagna. In Charaka Samhita, Charaka has also mentioned Bhagna along with wounds which is very difficult to heal. In General, treatment of Bhagna includes Asthi Sandhana. Along with this Sushruta has described the aetiopathogenesis, Symptoms, Classifications and Management of various traumatic musculo-skeletal conditions.
