Abstract

EVALUATION OF NUTRIENT (IRON, PROTEIN, ASCORBIC ACID, BETA CAROTENE) COMPOSITION OF DRY SHIGRU PATRA (MORINGA OLEIFERA LAM. LEAF) OF ISLAND (PORTBLAIR) AND MAINLAND (CHHATTISGARH)

ABSTRACT

Moringa oleifera Lam. of the family Moringaceae popularly called miracle tree is a native of sub Himalayan tracts of northern India and is widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions. It is a multipurpose plant that is being promoted as a sustainable source of bioactive phytochemicals and nutrients to reduce human and animal malnutrition. Since ancient times plants have been an exemplary source of medicines. Ayurveda and other Indian literature included the use of plants in the treatment of many diseases. As in Charaka Samhita kalpsthan 1/8 it is mentioned that places in which the plant grows is responsible for the quality of the plant or drug. These drugs become most effective in action by the richness of the factors of favorable places, season, quality of storage vessels and the process of dynamization. In Ayurveda there are 3 types of Desha, Jaangal Desha, Aanup Desha, Sadharan Desha. This study is an approach to identify changes or variations in the nutrient of Moringa oleifera Lam. leaves from two different geographical regional (Desha).
