Abstract

CONSUMER SAFETY IN THE PHARMACEUTICAL MARKET: RESULTS OF SURVEYS OF PHARMACY VISITORS

ABSTRACT

According to the results of a questionnaire survey of visitors to pharmacies, almost half of the respondents (over 48%) did not personally meet with counterfeit drugs when buying medicines in pharmacies. Instead, more than 8% of respondents often met. Respondents were equally divided, defining the main feature of counterfeit drugs: 23% of respondents believe that the label of the drug (different than usual) and the price (significantly lower) may indicate counterfeiting. Almost 55% of respondents trust foreign-made drugs more, among the main sales channels of counterfeit drugs offered in the survey, most pharmacy visitors are undecided. Also, the majority of respondents believe that they are more likely to buy counterfeit drugs in pharmacies of individual entrepreneurs or small pharmacy chains (42.9%), and the vast majority of consumers of pharmaceutical products (over 68%) expect investment from manufacturers and additional costs. marking with control samples of packages of the made medicines for protection against falsification, thus without increase in the price of drugs. The fight against drug counterfeiting must be carried out systematically, with the full participation of all stakeholders. It is necessary to detect counterfeit products at all stages of promotion of drugs from manufacturer to consumer, in this regard, it is important for drug manufacturers to disseminate information about the distinctive features of their original products, and domestic manufacturers to introduce additional labeling control samples, without increasing the cost of drugs. increase confidence in products of own production. The State Medical Service should promptly inform pharmacy chains about detected counterfeits for their timely withdrawal from circulation, which will prevent citizens from purchasing counterfeit drugs in pharmacies. Drug users need to be vigilant when purchasing medicines.
