ABSTRACT
The present investigation deals with the comparative screening for freeradical scavenging activity of variety of extracts of different plant parts of Pandanus unipapillatus Dennst. All the plant parts (root, leaf and stem) were extracted separately using organic solvents with varying polarity. The assays were carried out using nitric oxide scavenging, hydroxyl radical scavenging, superoxide radical scavenging, DPPH methods, total Flavonoids and phenolics. The current investigation revealed that the stem of the plant possesses comparatively higher activity than leaf and root. High amount of flavonoid and phenolic content were found in the stem than that of other parts (leaf, root). The current aim was to identify the most potent part of the plant so that further efforts can be initiated for isolating biologically active molecules from the specified part.
Keywords: Pandanus unipapillatus Dennst. DPPH. Nitric oxide scavenging., Hydroxyl radical scavenging. Superoxide radical. total flavonoids.
