STANDARDISATION OF HABB-E- NARKACHOOR USING PHARMACOPOEIAL AND HPTLC METHODS

ABSTRACT
Standardization of Unani single and compound drugs is essential to ensure the safety, efficacy and quality of drugs. Standards of Unani drugs are evaluated on the basis of pharmacognostical, physicochemical, WHO and HPTLC methods. Due to commercialisation of these drugs, the old methods of manufacturing have now been taken over by the modern methods such as Standard Operating Procedure and Good Manufacturing Practices etc. The Unani System of Medicine consists of several types of formulations like Haboob, Aqras, Qutur Jauhar, Kohal, Kushtajat, Raughaniyat, Sufoof, Itrifal, Jawarish, Khamira, Laooq, Luboob, Majoon, Murabbajat, Qairooti, Marham and Zimad etc. In the present study the drug Habb-e- Narkachoor categorized under Haboob (Pills) was undertaken to evaluate the scientific standard. Habb-e-Narkachoor is therapeutically acting as Antiemetic and Antinauseatic. Unani physicians prescribes this drug in the ailments of vomiting, Nausea and in Paediatric diseases. The present research study deals with powder microscopy, physico-chemical and WHO parameters. The HPTLC study of the drug was also carried out to ascertain the batch to batch consistency of Habb-e-Narkachoor.
