THE CLINICAL STUDY OF CHITRAK KSHAR AS A PRATISARNIYA KSHAR IN THE MANAGEMENT OF ARSHA W.S.R. TO Io & IIo INTERNAL HAEMORRHOIDS

ABSTRACT
Introduction: - Haemorrhoid is a disease, which is very specific to
human race only, due to its erect posture. Haemorrhoid is one of the
commonest diseases observed in Indian Territory. In Ayurveda, the
description of Haemorrhoid is given in ancient Samhita as “Arsha”.
Acharya Sushruta have mentioned four modalities of treatment for
Arsha -
चतुर्विधोऽर्िस ां स धनोऩ यः ।
तद्यथ -भेषजां क्ष रोऽग्नः र्स्त्रमिमत । (सु. मच. ६/३)
a) Bheshajam(treatment by medicines)
b) Kshara pratisaran (local application of alkali of herbal drug)
c) Agani karma (cauterisation)
d) Shastra karma.
Among all Shastra and Anushastra , Kshara is considered as the most important procedure as
it can singly gives surgical effects like incision, excision and scrapping and it can
conveniently used in places where the use of instrument may not be possible or convenient.
In present study Chitrak Kshar is used for local application for Io & IIo Internal
Haemorrhoids. Material and Methods:- 20 patients were selected, diagnosed as Io & IIo
Internal haemorrhoids from surgical IPD and OPD. Chitrak Kshara was prepared as
described in Ayurvedic texts in Rasshastra Department. Chitrak Kshar is applied to the
patients with proper methods along with precautions. Assessment of the patients done weekly for 3 weeks with following criteria- 1) PR bleeding, 2) Discharge 3) Size of the Haemorrhoid and observations were noted. Result: - Chitrak Kshar is very effective in the management of Arsha (Io &IIo Internal Haemorrhoids). Conclusion:- Internal Haemorrhoids can be treated effectively by Chitrak Kshar Pratisaran Karma
