ROLE OF PANCHVALKAL KWATHA PRAKSHALANA AND LOCAL APPLICATION OF TIKTADYA GHRITA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF DUSHTA VRANA: A CASE STUDY

ABSTRACT

Dushta Vrana is a common and often encountered problem faced in surgical practice. The presence of Dushta Vrana worsens the condition of the patient with different complications and may become fatal. Local factors on wound like slough, infection and foreign body, affect the normal process of healing. A healthy wound in a normal body heals within a one week with minimum scar, after one week wound become contaminated and converted into Dushta Vrana which fail to heal for a long period and result in to chronic wound (deergha kalanubadhi Dushta Vrana[1]), such Vrana needs Shodhana(bahya) and Ropana(bahya) chikitsa. Shodhana by Panchvalkal Kwataha[2] and Ropana by Tiktadya Ghrita[3] is a best line of treatment for Dushta Vrana. A case report of 45 year old female, who presented with complaint of an open wound on the dorsum of the left foot associated with pain, discharge, slough, foul smell, oedema and discolouration of the skin has been presented here.
