AWARENESS AMONG POSTGRADUATE PHARMACY STUDENTS ABOUT PHARMACOECONOMICS AND ITS APPLICATION: A QUESTIONNAIRE BASED OBSERVATIONAL STUDY

ABSTRACT
Objective: Pharmacoeconomics (PE) identifies, measures, and
compares the costs and consequences of drug therapy to healthcare
systems and society. In recent years pharmacoeconomics field has
grown up. Mainly post graduate students of pharmacy joins the health
economics and outcome research (basically related to
pharmacoeconomics) organizations and they can also help to
implement the pharmacoeconomics in research area and at country
level also. Hence it is essential that they should be aware of the
concept of pharmacoeconomics. The main objective was to check the
awareness of the post graduate pharmacy students about
pharmacoeconomics. Methods: The study was conducted in pharmacy
colleges of Delhi which provides the post-graduation course in various streams of pharmacy
and one college outside from Delhi. A questionnaire was distributed among 150 students, out
of them 100 students filled the questionnaire completely and the completely filled
questionnaires were used for statistical analysis. The statistical analysis was performed using
MS-Excel. Results: In the results it was seen that most of the participants responded the
questions very positively and a good portion of the students (55.66%) had awareness about
the pharmacoeconomics. Respondents have little knowledge about pharmacoeconomics (37.40%). Only (37.60%) respondents were aware about the methods of application of pharmacoeconomics. Conclusion: There is need to improve the knowledge of pharmacoeconomics among post graduate pharmacy students. For providing them basic knowledge of pharmacoeconomics various seminars, workshops, trainings and lectures should be arranged by the colleges. If the level of awareness about pharmacoeconomics increase in the pharmacy students then they can play a vital role in implementation of the pharmacoeconomics at its level in the country.
