A retrospective study was conducted over 12 months period (1/1/2017 till 31/12/2017) On 22,000 maternities delivered in the main three ministries of health (MOH) hospitals in mekkah region (king abdul aziz specialist hospital – taif, maternity and children hospital in makkah and Jeddah) Objectives of the study: To assess the contribution of severe PET to maternal morbidity and mortality and perinatal outcome. To study the known risk factors contributing to development of PET in population studied in makkah region. To assess the availability of evidence based protocols for diagnosis and management of PET. To evaluate the adherence of the nursing and medical staff in implementation of departmental protocols of PET. To evaluate the readiness of MOH hospitalsto deal with obstetric emergencies. To come out with unified evidence based protocol of the management of severe preeclampsia and its complications. To come out with recommendations that will improve the maternal and per natal outcome. The criteria to diagnose severe preeclampsia were based on WHO classification of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and NICE guidelines. Blood pressure >160/110 mmHg with protienuria in a pregnant woman at more than 20 weeks of gestation or a blood pressure of >140/90 in symptomat ic woman.
