A REVIEW OF THE SYNONYMS AND RASAPANCHAKA OF CHAKRAMARDA (Cassia tora Linn.) FROM VARIOUS NIGHANTOOS

Abstract Medicinal plants are the only affordable and accessible source of primary health care for the rural society, especially in the absence of access to modern medical facilities. It is estimated that about 80% of the world population residing in the vast rural areas of the developing and under developed countries still rely mainly on medicinal plants. A large number of plants are used by folklore and Ayurvedic practitioners in India for treatment of cuts, wounds and burns. Chakramarda (Cassia tora Linn.) is one of the most important plant which have been vividly described almost in all the nighantoos due to its high medicinal properties. In this review work we have tried to mention the various synonyms and rasapanchaka described in different nighantoos. This work will be helpful to identify this drug in different synonymous form.
