A BRIEF REVIEW ON METALLO β-LACTAMASE INHIBITORS
Shaik Riyazuddin Suhail* and Tarannum Fatima
Abstract β-lactam antibiotics have been used over half of the century due to their high level of activity & good tolerability. They share about 50% of the global antibiotic market. Development of bacterial resistance is the major threat of these antibiotics which is mediated by β-lactamases. The β-lactamases through hydrolysis breaks the β-lactam ring, thus deactivating the antibacterial properties. Administration of β-lactamase inhibitors along with β-lactams prevent bacterial degradation & shows significant antibacterial activity. Co-administration of β-lactams & β- lactamase inhibitors like sulbactam, avibactam and clavulanic acid have shown to overcome class-A β-lactamase mediated resistance. Keywords: ?-lactams, bacterial resistance and ?-lactamase inhibitors. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
