.

Abstract

In the present review we are presenting some aspects of gels and jellies with their manufacturing methods and application. gels and jellies are advancing in the drug delivery system. They have a very long list of advantages and nowadays some new modifications are also being done in the preparation of gels and jellies. They show a high range of effect and drug delivery with a very least or no systemic toxicity. These are a very easy formulation to deliver a drug topically or systemically. These are highly palatable and patient compliance is very high. They are colourful, attractive and tasty so it's a very easy and effective method to render medicine to kids. Some of the new forms of gels and jellies are solid dispersion incorporated gel, in situ gel, emulgel, liposomal gel etc. gels and jellies are evaluated on various parameters before they are marketed. Their efficacy is tested before they are released in the market. Some of the evaluation parameters are zeta potential, syneresis, thixotropy, rheological parameters, spreadability, droplet size, ex vivo permeation etc. gels and jellies are transparent or colourful semisolid formulations with a high ratio of gelling agents. These systems form a 3D structure. incorporation of gels in novel drug delivery system provides better skin permeability, rheological properties, stability and least toxicity. nowadays topical drug delivery system is becoming a very important and very efficient route of drug delivery as it shows better local activity.

Keywords: Emulgel, jellies, rheological properties, syneresis, thixotropy.
