AN OBSERVATIONAL STUDY ON ETIOPATHOGENESIS OF SHOTHA W. S. R. TO CARDIAC OEDEMA

. Abstract Ayurveda describes diseases characterized with swelling under the title of shotha. Udaka dhatu is an important component of shotha and is maintained by production, circulation and elimination of Kleda. Nidana sevana causes derangement of Dosha, and leads to manifestation of Shotha in various place. Oedema is a clinical condition, where there is abnormal increase in the interstial fluid within the tissue. It can be the result of pregnancy or any underlying pathology like heart failure/ kidney disease/ cirrhosis of liver etc. This is a cross-sectional observational study in which 20 patients with Hrudhyamarmotta shotha were selected for study and Nidana, Lakshana was evaluated along with laboratory parameters like ECG, echocardiogram, hemogram, and other required laboratory tests. Observation data were recorded and descriptive statistics was applied. In this regard, an attempt has been made to analyse the etiopathogenesis of shotha described in the classics in relation to cardiac oedema. Keywords: Shotha, Kleda, Udaka Dhatu, Cardiac Oedema.
