THERAPEUTIC AND DIAGNOSTIC POTENTIAL OF CAMELID NANOBODIES AGAINST COVID-19
Akshdip Sandip Agey and Aritra Chandra*
. Abstract The unique structural and functional properties of naturally occurring heavy-chain antibodies (HCAbs) or commercially named Nanobodies (Nbs) are antibody-derived therapeutic proteins. They show excellent robustness, are non-immunogenic in humans, and can easily be engineered and produced in prokaryotic hosts. A variety of methods are currently in use for the fast and efficient generation of target specific Nbs. Such Nbs are produced at low cost and associate with a high affinity to their cognate antigen. The construction of a naive camelid VHHs library from the blood serum of non-immunized camelids with affinity in the sub-nanomolar range and nanobody-based human heavy-chain antibodies as Coronavirus treatment are discussed below.
