A CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF SIRAVEDHAN

. Abstract Rakta Dhatu (Blood) is one of the most important part in anatomical and physiological structure of body among seven Dhatus in Ayurveda. Rakta Dhatu is not mere blood only. Rakta is one among the Dash Pranayatan as mentioned in Sushruta Samhita. Acharya has mentioned that Rakta (blood) is fundamental source of vitality and life. Pitta Dosha and Rakta Dhatu have Ashraya Ashrayi relation with each other, hence increase and decrease of Rakta Dhatu depends on increase and decrease of Pitta Dosha. Vitiation of Pitta Dosha is main cause of Rakta Pardoshaj Vikar. Acharya Charaka has mentioned that if a disease condition is not getting relived by any of Sheeta, Ushna, Snigdha, Ruksha Chikitsa then that disease condition should be diagnosed as Raktaj Vyadhi. Classical text of Ayurveda, Acharya emphasize Shodhan therapy as a line of treatment, and Raktamokshan Karma is included in it. Raktamokshan Karma is highlighted in Shodhan therapy because in Samprapti Ghataka, Rakta is mainly involved as Dushya. It is most commonly used procedure in a disease condition in which vitiation of Rakta Dhatu occures. Acharya Sushruta has mentioned a theory about practical guidelines for Raktamokshan and claims it as the most effective therapy in half of body ailments. Acharya Sushruta has given detailed description about Siravedhan and Pracchan and their importance in Raktagata Vikar hence in this topic, all conditions of Siravedhan given by Acharya Sushruta are mentioned.
