PREPARATION AND EVALUATION OF A LIPID BASED POROUS GASTRIC FLOATING BEAD FOR SUSTAINED DELIVERY OF BERBERINE
Agrawal Swapnil*, Jain Sanjay and Sahu Anuj
. Abstract When a medication is taken in a dose form that is released slowly from the stomach, the full surface area of the small intestine is open to absorption. Gastroretentive dosage forms—those designed to exhibit a prolonged gastric residence time (GRT)—have attracted study because of their potential for controlled medication administration. Due to their propensity to remain in the gastric region for several hours, drugs' stomach residence durations can be significantly prolonged by gastro retentive mechanisms. Maintaining a medication in the gastric region may make it more soluble before the stomach is emptied, enhancing the drug's bioavailability if it is poorly soluble in the intestine due to an alkaline pH. The results indicate the excellent bead floating capacity by showing that all formulations can float for up to 12 hours. Keywords: Floating beads, Bead Size, Berberine, Gastro retentive.
