EVALUATION OF ANTI-ULCER ACTIVITY OF METHANOLIC EXTRACT OF CISSUS VERTICILLATA LEAVES IN RATS
Mohammed Vazir, Priyanka R., Niraj Gaudh, Lalit Kumar Shah, Harshitha D. N.
. Abstract Background and Objectives: Vitaceae is represented by four genera, with approximately eighty species comprising the genus Cissus. Cissus verticillata (L.) Phytochemical data showed that leaves of C. verticillata contain: tannins, reducer compounds, steroids and triterpenes, aminoacids, fatty compounds and flavonoids, more specifically, kaempferol, luteolin and luteolin-3'-sulfate, which are all related to the biological activity of the plant.[1] However, no scientific record is available for the antiulcer, y and toxicological studies of leaves of the plant Cissus Verticillata. Hence the present study was designed to evaluate these activities of Methanolic extracts of Cissus Verticillata using experimental models in rats. Methodology: The method up and down (OECD guideline No.423)[2] of CPCSEA was adopted toxicity studies. The anti ulcei activity of methanolic extract of leaves part of Cissus Verticillata was investigated by pylorus ligation and aspirin indused gastric uler and alcohol induces gastric ulcer and Histopathological changes investigated. Conclusion: From the study it can be concluded the plant Cissus Verticillata could be considered as a treatment for the Antiulcer activity. The activities may probably of flavonoids, Triterpenoids, glycosides and Phytosterols. The present study supports the use of this plant in folk medicine.[3] Keywords: Cissus Verticillata; Bark parts; Pharmacological activities; Antiulcer. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
