THERAPEUTIC SIGNIFICANCE OF RAKTAMOKSHNA IN KUSHTA: AN AYURVEDIC PERSPECTIVE

Pallavi Patel*, Dr. Keerthi Sudhakaran, Dr. Amalendu VM

Abstract

Kushta is considered as type of skin lesions or skin diseases. Kushta can be understood as a group of skin disorders or skin lesions that produce visible symptoms such as discoloration, scaling, itching, or thickening of the skin. They result from vitiation of Tridosha and Rakta dhatu. Rakta and Pitta share an inherent Ashraya-Ashrayi Bhava, as both possess similar qualities such as Ushna and Drava. When Pitta becomes aggravated, it vitiates Rakta, leading to Raktadushti and the manifestation of various Kushta conditions leading to wideranging dermatological manifestations. Therefore, purification of Rakta is essential to restore the balance of Pitta and maintain skin health. Raktamokshna, one of the principal Shodhana Chikitsa, serves this purpose by eliminating vitiated Rakta from the body.

Keywords: Kushta, Raktamokshna, Jalauka, Shringa, Psoriasis.
