SYNTHESIS OF SOME NOVEL FORMAZANS AS POTENTIAL ANTITUBERCULAR AGENTS
S.Afroz Begum, C. Gopinath*, N. Pramod, M. NagendraBabu, N.C. SreeVaishnavi, S. Chand Basha
Abstract Various substituted formazan derivatives have received considerableimportance during last decade as they are covered with wide variety ofbiological and pharmacological activities and have a wide range oftherapeutic importance. Based on this a series of new heterocycliccontaining formazan derivatives are synthesized by the treatment ofpyridine-4–carbaldehyde with phenylhydrazine in presence of naturalacidic catalyst like lemon juice yields Schiff bases. This Schiff base isthen treated with different diazonium salts in presence of pyridine toform a novel series of Formazan derivatives. The synthesizedcompounds were characterized by physical studies like solubility, melting point, TLC and subjected to spectral studies like IR, 1H-NMRspectroscopy and Mass spectrometry. All the synthesized compoundswere screened for biological activity like In-vitro anti-tubercular activity was performed byMicroplateAlamar Blue Assay method (MABA) by using Pyrazinamide, Ciprofloxcin andStreptomycin as reference standards. Results suggested that electron withdrawing groups likenitro, chloro, containing compounds shown potent anti-tubercular activity. Rest ofcompounds showed mild to moderate activity. Keywords: Formazans, Diazotization, Antitubercular activity. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
