A COMPREHENSIVE STUDY OF PRESCRIPTIONS AS PER MEDICAL COUNCIL OF INDIA (MCI) GUIDELINES IN BHOPAL (INDIA)

Abstract

A medical prescription is a written order from a doctor to a pharmacist that includes instruction for preparing and dispensing medicines to a certain patient. It’s an important instrument which is useful to a pharmacist to give proper, ethical instruction to patients for maximum efficacy of drug and minimizing adverse effects. It is observed in India, that prescription writing and its format is not uniform. Recently MCI (Medical council of India) has given the guideline related to format of prescription. This study is to perform surveys of prescription writing and prescription format. It is found that the prescription writing is not uniform across the country even the prescription writing guidelines given by the Medical Council of India is just started this year. In this year pharmacy practice regulation is also came in existence. This regulation is important to counsel patient related to various pharmaceutical aspects of drugs like bio pharmaceutics of drug and drug interaction, drug and food interaction, etc. Bhopal is a modern, academic oriented and diverged culture city with all grades of physicians and surgeons. Three hundred doctor’s prescription was studied for different aspects and found that MCI guidelines are not followed by physician and surgeons.
