Abstract Callicarapa arborea, commonly known as Beautyberry Tree belongsto Verbenaceae family. It is widely used in traditional medicine fortreatment of jaundice, fever, headache, stomachache, skin and scorpionbites diseases. The fresh leaves of the plant were washed, air dried inshade, ground to powder and subjected to cold maceration usingmethanol as per the standard procedure, condensed by subjecting to arotary evaporator and lyophilized. The methanolic extract preparedwas analyzed for antioxidant activity by three different in vitromethods; namely (1) DPPH free radical scavenging activity, (2) Ferricreducing antioxidant potential (FRAP) assay and (3) Total phenoliccontents by spectrophotometeric method. In the radical scavengingmeasurement method of DPPH and ferric iron reducing ability assay, the antioxidant activities were 9.78±0.12 mg and 12.81±0.64 mg Trolox equivalentrespectively per gram of dried leaves. Keywords: Callicarpa arborea, antioxidant activity, DPPH, FRAP, Total phenolic. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
