APPLICATION OF MORINGA OELIFERA AND TERMINALIA CATAPPA GUM AS DRUG BINDER

Abstract Natural sources such as mucilages and gums possesses good binding properties and can be used as binder for tablets. Moringa oelifera gum (MOG) and Terminalia catappagum (TCG) both secrets gum with good adhesive property. The present study is to compare the drug release capacity of Moringa oelifera gum (MOG) and Terminalia catappagum (TCG)using paracetamol tablet. Various properties of the prepared drugs were studied. TCG was found to release faster than MOG.Various properties of the prepared drugs were studied and the results tabulated. TCG was found to release faster than MOG. Based on the studies done, we found that Terminalia catappagum can be used as a binder for fast releasing drugs and Moringa oeliferagum has the potential of being used in slow releasing GIT drugs.
