Abstract

A STUDY OF EVALUATION OF ANTHELMINTIC ACTIVITY OF LEAVES EXTRACT OF CELOSIA ARGENTEA

Abstract

Celosia argentea is a copiously branched herbaceous perennial plant distributed throughout the tropics which is used in the treatment of astringent, hoemostatic, ophthalmic, parasiticide. It also used in bloody stool, uterine bleeding and hypertension. The present study is an attempt to explore the Anthelmintic activity of ethanolic extract of leavs of plant Celosia argentea. The various concentrations of ethanolic extract were evaluated for their Anthelmintic activities on adult Indian earthworms Pheritima posthuma. The activities are well compared with the standard drug Piperazine citrate. Celosia argentea is expected to possess many constituents among them Alkaloid, flavanoids and saponin glycosides are also major constituents. So due to presence of alkaloids Celosia argentea posses Anthelmintic activity. Animal treated with distilled water was taken as abnormal control. Standard drug solution was prepared in distilled water. Activity was evaluated by note the time required for paralysis and death of worms by extracts.
