LARVICIDAL EFFICACY OF PLANT OILS AGAINST THE DENGUE VECTOR AEDES AEGYPTI (L.) (DIPTERA: CULICIDAE)
*Paulraj S.
Abstract The bioactivity of ten plant oils such as Basil (Ocimum basilicum), Catnip (Nepeta cataria), Clary Sage (Salvia sclarea), Cornmint (Mentha arvensis), Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), Marjoram (Thymus mastichina), Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin), Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis), Spearmint (Mentha spicata), Thyme (Thymus vulgaris), were tested for their larvicidal activity with 100,200,300,400, and 500 ppm concentrations against the fourth instar larvae of dengue vector, Aedes aegypti. Larval mortality was observed after 24 hours. Among the plant oils tested in the present investigation, catnip oil exhibited highest larvicidal activity with LC50 of 195.06. Keywords: Ocimum basilicum, Nepeta cataria, Mentha spicata. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
