Abstract An library of substituted 1-(1-(6-methyl-2-oxo-4-phenyl-1,2,3,4- tetrahydropyrimidin-5- yl)ethylidene)thiosemicarbazide are carried out by refluxing 5-acetyl-6-methyl-4-phenyl-3,4- dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)- one and thiosemicarbazide in equimolar ratio in Bronsted acidic quaternary ammonium sulphate ionic liquid [Et3NH][HSO4] serving as dual solvents and catalysts. The chemical structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed by means of IR, 1H-NMR, Mass spectral and Elemental analysis. These compounds were screened for anti-bacterial (Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Psseudomonas aeruginonasa ATCC 27853) and anti-fungal (Candida albicans) activities by cup-plate method. Antimicrobial activities of the compounds were also determined at different levels of concentration. Most of the synthesized compounds exhibited mild to moderate anti-bacterial and anti-fungal activities. Keywords: Pyrimidines, Thiosemicarbazide, Bronsted acidic quaternary ammonium ionic liquids, Antibacterial and Antifungal activities. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
