STUDY OF MEDICINAL PLANTS USED FOR THE TREATMENT OF MALARIA IN THE TIRUCHIRAPPALLI REGION

Abstract An Ethno botanical study was undertaken to collect the information from Tiruchirappalli District in Tamilnadu. The traditional knowledge of traditional healer and medicinal practices on medicinal plants was collect through questionaries’ and personal interviews during field trips. The study area field visits conducted during June to November 2017. 55 species of medicinal plants of malaria were reported the survey and having discussion with local traditional healers and local peoples. These medicinal plants belongs to 31 families. This studies show that the peoples still continue to depend on medicinal plants, however the traditional healer are on the decline because the younger generation of the people have no interest and knowledge of this form of medicine as they have started moving towards the towns and cities.
