Abstract
Antioxidants are able to either delay and inhibit the oxidation
processes which take place under the influence of atmospheric oxygen
or reactive oxygen species. Hence, the study was aimed to understand
the antioxidant capacity of aqueous extract of dry Ceiba seeds. The dry
Ceiba seeds purchased was ground to a powder and then aqueous
extract was prepared by taking 25, 50, 75, 100mg concentration. Each
concentration was assessed for secondary metabolites and antioxidant
activities. The Ceiba seeds was found to contain higher flavonoid
(194.66±4.61mg/g) and phenolics (176.0±8.00mg/g) in moderate
amount. Presence of these phytochemicals add antioxidant property to
it. Here in our study, nitric oxide scavenging, reducing power activity was effective when
compared to other antioxidant activities.
