AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF POST VIRAL ARTHRALGIA –A CASE REPORT

Abstract
Chikungunya is a viral disease primarily found in nonhuman primates
but the infection is transmitted to humans by bite of Ades aegypti
mosquito. The word chikungunya means „that which blends up‟. First
human affected from this disease was reported in Africa. The
symptoms of chikungunya are characterised by severe arthralgia,
abrupt onset of fever, migratory polyarthritis, chills, headaches,
anorexia, abdominal pain, rash all over body. In this case Immune
response of virus attacks the body‟s own cells. Due to this type of
reactivity inflammation and damage of cells and tissues occurs. Even
after proper treatment of the disease, changes in joints persists this
causes swelling and pain. The joint pain is typically severe with
varying location and duration. The current paper going to be describes a patient who
presented to our hospital OPD with the arthralgia and previously diagnosed as case of
chikungunya infection. In Ayurvedic literature the features of Vata-pitta jvara and Vatakapha
jvara is similar to the symptoms of arthralgia to some extent. In Bhav Prakash
Sandhigata-sannipataj jvara have symptoms similar to chikungunya to some extent. This
case report describe the clinical presentation, laboratory test, medications given and
improvement in symptoms on further follow up of the patient.
