COMPARATIVE STUDY OF ANTIFUNGAL ACTIVITY OF POMEGRANATE SEED AND PEEL POWDER EXTRACT

Abstract
Binominal name of pomegranate is Punica granatum L. belongs to
family Punicaceae. The objective of the present work was to
comparative study antifungal activity of pomegranate seed and peel
powder extract. The Punica granatum L. is one of the oldest known
edible fruits. Pomegranate is utilized by local people as the part of their
meal and treat health diseases. Peoples supposed to consume
pomegranate seed and their peel was thrown as waste. Present study
was designed to comparative study of peel powder extract and seed
powder extract against human pathogens. The aqueous extract was
prepared using distilled water by decoction method. Antifungal activity
was tested against two fungi (candida albicans and Aspergillus). The
evaluations were based on the zone of inhibition using agar cup and plate method assay. This
study represents that aqueous extract of waste material (peel) of pomegranate may be utilize
as a potential source of antifungal agents than the aqueous extract of waste material seed of
pomegranate.
