THE EFFECT OF VARDHAMANA PIPPALI RASAYANA ON PRANAVAHA STROTASA IN DIFFERENT DEHAPRAKRITI WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO SPIROMETRY

Abstract
The new era of Globalization and upgrading technology is
continuously developing at a lightening speed. At the same time, the
air pollution and respiratory problems like asthma, PTB are emerging
in society with same speed. So, the maintenance of respiratory health
has become the issue of prime importance. For the same purpose the
Rasayana medication can prove to be very helpful. Vardhaman Pippali
mentioned in the च.चच.1/3/36-40 and वा.उ. 39/98-100 is the rasayana
which works on diseases of Pranavaha strotasa and can be used to
improve its function physiologically if used in healthy individuals.
Though Brihattrayi has not describe the physiology of Pranavaha
strotasa seperately, they have described the pathological symptoms of
the strotasa in Cha.Vi. 5. Absence of these symptoms indicates
physiological well being of Pranvaha strotasa. Also from these symptoms we can conclude
that even though ‗Moolsthana‘ of Pranvaha Strotasa are Hridaya and Mahakoshtha, it‘s
‗Vyaktisthan‘ thai is functional site is a lung since all symptoms of Pranavaha strotodushti are
related to rhythm, rate and depth of respiration. So, to assess the Pranvaha Strotasa in an
objective view, we have to assess lung functions at first. For this purpose Spirometry can be
used. In this study the 60 individuals with 20 individuals of each doshpradhan prakriti viz.
Vatapradhan, Pittapradhan and Kaphapradhan has been examined for Spirometry, before and
after administration of Vardhamaan pippali rasayana. Study was conducted in period of two years (2013-15) at R.A. Podar medical college during the post graduation of corresponding author. And the difference between the before and after spirometrical values for each individual has been summarized in the view of different dehaprakrities.
