A CRITICAL REVIEW OF OBESITY IN AYURVEDIC LITERATURE

Abstract
Today in the era of modernization it is necessary to check our life style that is very much influenced from the western world. Our changing food habits like junk food, fast food, are a major cause to produce Obesity which in turn produces many health hazards like Hypertension, DM & Life style disorders etc. All these are the result of the change in lifestyle and hence fall under the category of lifestyle disorders. Obesity has become epidemic today and it is essential to understand the consequences of obesity. Ayurveda and yoga have to be adopted as they take a holistic view of health and wellbeing and they are economical and safe. The practices of Yoga and Ayurveda work synergistically. As Ayurveda helps us in ensuring physical, spiritual and social health, yoga too has earned a place in this ancient medical system with its ability to provide a better health in body and peace in mind.
