CONCEPT AND MANAGEMENT OF POLYCYSTIC OVARIAN SYNDROME IN GRECO ARABIAN MEDICINE: A REVIEW STUDY

Abstract The Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is one of the most common causesof oligo-ovulatory infertility and it is the most commonendocrinopathy affecting premenopausal women. It is a condition thathas likely affected women for all of time as it is documented in theoldest medical literature. It starts appearing at 15 to 25 years of age &it may take years for its clinical presentation to appear. It ischaracterized by oligomenorrhoea, obesity, hyperandrogenism andinfertility. Over all incidence of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is 4% to22% in women & 50% of women seen at infertility clinics. It is anincompletely understood enigmatic disease of heterogeneous nature.The main aim of this paper is to provide the brief history of PolycysticOvarian Syndrome in Unani system of medicine.
