HORMONAL CHANGES IN PIPER BETEL LINN. LEAF STALK EXTRACT ADMINISTERED MALE ALBINO RATS

Abstract

It is well known that Follicular stimulating hormone (FSH), Luteinizing hormone (LH), Testosterone (T) and Estrogens (E) are the major hormones in male animals, which play important roles in male reproduction. In the present study betel leaf stalk extract administered orally for 15 days to Wistar male albino rats. The effect of Betel leaf stalk extract on gonadotrophic hormone levels and testosterone levels were observed. The serum hormonal profiles represent hyper gonadotropins due to hypotestosterone levels. Thus, the Betel leaf stalks extract affect on the hormonal synthesis and their function which leads to infertility.
