Other type is Becker Muscular Dystrophy (BMD) – similar symptoms to Duchenne but with a later onset and slower progression. Patient usually becomes wheelchair bound by the age of 8 to 10 years, and a proportion of patients have mental sub-normality and cardiac abnormalities. Among which some die of cardio-respiratory complications in their late teens to early twenties.
