STUDY DIURETIC ACTION OF LEAVES OF MANGIFERA INDICA
Abhishek R. Bura*
Abstract A dried powder of Mangifera Indica is substituted for extraction usingethyl acetate,60 % ethanol, and water in upper order to polarityprepared. Mangifera Indica L. indicates the presence of alkaloids, tannins, saponins, steroids, flavonoids, terpenes by phytochemicalanalysis of ethanolic extract. Then diuretic activity tested by Aqueousand 60 % ethanolic extract of Mangifera Indica. Diuretic activity testedby Lipchitz method. In toxicity studies 200mg/kg & 400 mg/ kg dosewas selected for given activity. After 24 hours urine output wascalculated. In the given study Furosemide (20mg/kg) served as apositive control by giving IP route and by giving IV route and by oralroute extracts were given. Na+, K+, Cl concentration in urine wasdetermined by flame photometer instrument.60% ethanoic extract and aqueous extract ofMangifera Indica L. leaves at 400 mg/kg have increased the urine output significantly. Theseextracts of 60 % EEMI & AEMI at 400 mg/kg b.w. has shown better diuretic activity, whereas moderate diuretic activity was shown at 200 mg/kg dose. From current study, it isconcluded that aqueous extract and 60% ethanolic extract of Mangifera Indica L. has diureticand natriuretic activity.
