Abstract
The transport of L-methionine by a multiple analogue-resistant mutant
Corynebacterium glutamicumX300 was studied. Only one transport
system with low affinity (Km=15.1nmols-1g-1) for L-methionine was
found in this mutant. Influx of L-methionine into the cells was
accelerated by Na+ and K+. The effect of other metal ions was almost
negligible. Effect of L-methionine analogues on L-methionine uptake
by this mutant was also investigated. The effect was comparatively
mild as it was a multiple analogue resistant strain. Different metabolic
inhibitors studied exhibit significant inhibitory role on L-methionine
uptake by the mutant. Uptake of L-methionine by NEM_untreated cells
potentiated the efflux of L-methionine by the mutant.
