Abstract
The present study aimed at preparing fast dissolving oral films of
Vardenafil HCL which is used to treat erectile dysfunction. Fast
dissolving dosage forms have acquired great importance in
pharmaceutical industry because of their unique properties. In present
research work films were prepared by solvent casting technique using
polymers such as Kollicoat IR and PVA. The prepared films were
evaluated for film thickness, folding endurance, tensile strength, %
elongation, disintegration time, drug content uniformity and drug
release. The FTIR studies revealed that there is no physical interaction
between drug and polymer. The optimized formulation F5 (B) prepared using Kollicoat IR
shows better results for weight (37mg), thickness (0.10mm), tensile strength ( 3 gm /cm2), %
elongation (5.5%), folding endurance (32), surface PH (6.84), drug content uniformity
(101.09). The formulations were subjected to disintegration (14 seconds); in vitro drug
release (101.94%) and stability study (it revealed that optimized formulation was stable).
FDF of Vardenafil HCL can be considered suitable in treatment of erectile dysfunction.
