VISHAMUSHTI VATI: A THEORITICAL ANALYSIS

Abstract Ayurveda, one of the ancient sciences of life, is practiced for attaining complete health. It is not merely a kind of antiquated medicine. It is a science based upon the observation of living beings and their actual responses and reactions to their environment. The use of poison have been recorded in ancient Ayurvedic classic since long ago and preparation made out those poisonous drugs has shown miraculous effects in various diseases. Vishamusti is one among them which is widely used to treat in different diseases. But many of the Ayurvedic practitioners hesitate to use such those formulations which carries toxic drugs like Vishamushti (Kupilu).To conquer that situation precise analysis of the formulation should be done before prescribing to patient. Present study aimed to compile all the available literature regarding the pharmacological actions and properties of the drug. Research studies proves that Vishamusti Vati is contains less toxic component (strychnine) after it is subjected to proper shodhana.
