THE CONCEPT OF VARNA AN AYURVEDIC PROSPECTIVE

Abstract Healthy and glowing skin is the first sign of physical and mental health of an individual as well as it is an impressive factor. According to modern medical science the complexion of skin primarily depends upon the genetic factors. Other than genetic factors, the environmental component like exposure to UV rays, carotene rich diet, and the mental stress can influence the skin complexion. There is brief description of various factors responsible for skin complexion in Ayurveda texts. The term “Varna” is used for skin complexion/colour.
