Abstract
Diabetes is considered as a metabolic disorder characterized by
elevated level of glucose in the blood. The present study is aimed to
compare the antidiabetic activity of ethanolic extract of passiflora
edulis peel flour with that of a marketed product, glimepiride, in
streptozotocin -induced diabetic rats. The study was performed by the
measurement of blood glucose level using a glucometer. It was found
that the ethanolic extract of passiflora edulis peel flour showed
antidiabetic activity comparable to that of glimepiride. It can thus be
inferred that ethanolic extract of passiflora edulis peel flour possesses
significant antidiabetic activity.
