FOOD TABOOS AND SUGGESTIONS AMONG MADURESE PREGNANT WOMEN

Abstract
The study revealed that food taboos and misconceptions pregnancy
exist, one-half of the women in the study area were obligated to avoid
specific food items due to cultural and traditional views. Less educated
women were, the more they practice food taboos. The less educated
women were, the more likely to observe more food taboos. This
observation underscores the importance of educating women and
providing nutrition education aimed at changing mothers‟ attitudes
towards appropriate feeding practices.
